This Year 5 theme, “Europe & Christianity,” explores the historical and cultural connections between Europe and Christianity through a concept-driven lens. Learners will explore the Quranic narratives of Prophets Yahya, Zakariyya, and Isa (as), and the character of Maryam (as), along with the miracles and message of Prophet Isa (as). Learners conduct comparative analyses of the lives of the prophets and their representation in Islamic and Christian traditions. Through this analysis, learners explore the impact and role religious belief systems have had on various societies throughout history  and the diverse forms of religious expression and the influence and impact of sacred texts, symbols and worship rituals on people’s lives.Learners also delve into the Islamic requirements in interacting with people from other religions, beliefs and cultures. Learners are given the opportunity to exercise their religious literacy and develop a critical lens when engaging in religious discourse. Through their exploration of the history of Christianity and Judiasim, learners will be able to gain insight into the origins of different faiths and how they compare to those of Islam. Learners will also gain respect and understanding of religious differences while solidifying their own Islamic identity and aqīdah, as well.
